Breaking News - Trains are being cancelled because it is hot.
Ok, it isn't really breaking news as it is becoming an all too common event. Epping and Hurstbridge lines effectively closed. 100 cancellations in a day and more to come.
What I don't get is that so far the following have been listed as reasons:
- train drivers;
- vandalism;
- dodgy air con
- buckled tracks
- not enough infrastructure spending
- Jeff Kennett
- Brumby, Bracks, Kosky et al
But none of the main players in this saga are willing to get together and sort it out. Finger pointing and blaming each other is not going to get those poor bastards sitting on platform 9 home any earlier.

I'm guilty and charged; I saw Kosky at Flinders Street this morning and laid my fangs into her, in front of the media.
But we're not all going to work together. For starters, I don't think you could get the dodgy airconditioning to get along with the spending.
I am starting to think that they would be better off having an alliance structure between DoT, the operator and track maintainer.
Get them all together so that no one can pass the buck on fuck ups.
Every day there is a new excuse. I doubt anyone taking 3 hours in 40+ degree heat to get home would accept any excuse.
A single accountable agency as proposed my Mees (the 'Zurich Model') is considered world's best practise; no meddlesome subsiduary companies.
Oh, and I hassled Kosky today:

See the clip.
Do the commuters even care whose fault it is? Fingerpointing doesn't get anybody anywhere (literally in this case). Like you say, they should just shut up and start trying to solve the problems together - as much as they can. Obviously not easy to control the heat.
I'm thanking my lucky stars I don't need to use trains. My tram tonight was hotter than the air outside it though, but it least it was on time. I amused myself by watching the sweat patch on the shirt of the guy in front of me growing bigger and bigger while I cuddled my bottle of iced water.
(Smugness alert - I'm typing this from my air conditioned bedroom. Aaaaah.)
RVB - ahh well done. I hope you got a copy for the archives?
FL - Not Happy Ja(y)n(e)!!
It was a bit better last night with the air con going after the pool adventures.
I am also glad not to be on the trains this week.
