of when you bought a CD you got artwork, a booklet, sometimes lyrics or a story to go with the album. Not just a download bar on i-tunes.
Now you go online and download the single, the ring tone etc. What happened to artists creating an album? A catalogue of 10, 12 or 15 songs they have put together. You would listen through them finding what might be the next single or what you think should be the next single. Not just listening to the one song on high repeat on commercial stations.
Is it not suprising then that the early 90's featured so heavily in Triple J's Hottest 100 of all time?
Have a look through the list. You will be humming tunes for the rest of the day.

Don't start me on music. There are some great artists out there for sure. And they still make great albums.
I even noted that JB is now no longer selling CD singles because they make no money on them, they take up too much room and never sell. Everyone buys singles via i-tunes.
My current housemate only plays vinyl. He's got his decks set up in the lounge and it's lovely.
I have bought a couple of things from iTunes and it definatly has it's place but it's soulless.. I guess progress always comes with a price.
However, I do love my iPod.. very handy.
There is something warm about vinyl, the crackling, static.
ipods do have their place for sure. And so does i-tunes but I lament the loss of album art.

A guy who used to work for me released an album recently and to get people's attention, he and his brother made 100 wooden CD covers with artwork on them. It certainly got some attention from the likes of JJJ, RRR and PBS.
I swore I would never buy whole albums on iTunes, that I would stick to buying actual CDs...but I've done it a few times.
PS I don't get people who say music these days is crap, as if music is one great homogenous blob (or maybe they only listen to Top 40). Yes, there's a lot of shite out there, but there's plenty of people still making great music. You just might not find it on Triple M.
